About Eileen Sterlock

I knew very early on in my legal career that I wanted to practice immigration law. I was drawn to immigration law both because it is complex and challenging, but more importantly because being an immigration attorney allows me to learn from and help people from all around the world to protect their rights, unite their families, and pursue their dreams.

I grew up in Maryland. I attended college in Arizona and worked there for several years before deciding to move to Portland, Oregon to attend law school. I have made Portland my home. However, after law school, I moved back to Arizona to work at the Florence Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project, a nationally recognized non-profit organization that provides legal assistance to thousands of men and women who are held in immigration detention centers while facing Removal Proceedings without an attorney. One of the greatest injustices in our legal system is that unlike in criminal court, where the government will provide an attorney to anyone who cannot afford one, there are no free immigration lawyers in Immigration Court. I worked with individuals at the Eloy Detention Center every day to guide them through the difficult process of representing themselves in Immigration Court.

I use the same client-centered approach in my practice today in Oregon to help empower my clients to understand immigration law and to make informed decisions about their case. I work one on one with clients, providing personal attention throughout the case.

I learned to speak Spanish in Mexico and Panama. I love to travel, whether to visit friends and family, or to explore new places. I also enjoy mountaineering, rock climbing, hiking, and yoga.

I feel very fortunate to have had a broad range of professional experiences that have allowed me to understand immigration law from a variety of perspectives. This allows me to be a more effective advocate and to provide more complete immigration services for my clients.
